The Facets spell
Bevel Lash
Independent · 30 damage
A Facet spell. The left thumb draws a triangle clockwise from its top while the right thumb draws one straight stroke down. Heavy damage that is meant to ignore shields (no enemy has one yet).
Strokes
Independent: each thumb draws its own shape, at its own pace, starting and ending together.
| Thumb | Size | Sharp corners | Vertices |
|---|---|---|---|
| Left thumb | 28 mm (28 × 24 mm) | 33% along, 120° 67% along, 120° | 4 |
| Right thumb | 28 mm (0 × 28 mm) | None, smooth | 2 |
Size is the longer side of the drawn shape. Corner positions are the share of the stroke's length drawn before reaching them.

Concept art of the effect
Elsewhere in the Codex
The casting prototype ships eight spells, five Evane and three Facet. Repel, Coil, Gale and Facet Seal came first, one per drawing style; Brace, Mend, Bevel Lash and Prism Snare are the first batch from the Spell Set tab. Each lives in its own data file (
Assets/StreamingAssets/Data/Spells/<id>.json), and the scorer checks exactly what this table describes. Shapes are written as the player sees them on a landscape phone; "outward" means toward that thumb's screen edge. From Mobile RPG Codex › Spellcasting › Spell Book (Prototype)

- Thumbs move at different rates by design; start and end together
- Breath window
- 850 ms
Thumb sync allows about 80 ms between the thumbs' start and end times before it costs a third of the timing score. A spell can set its own breath window (Coil, Facet Seal, Mend, Bevel Lash and Prism Snare do); the default is 600 ms, and it is meant to grow later with player level and gear.
Top row, left to right: Repel, Coil, Gale, Facet Seal. Second row: Brace, Mend, Bevel Lash, Prism Snare. In each pair the left half is the left thumb and the right half the right thumb; the white dot is where the stroke starts. The image is rendered from the spell data files, the same way the in-game spell book draws its icons.
(Idea) Facet spells: two words, a gem-cutting term then what it does: Facet Seal, Bevel Lash, Prism Snare, Crown Ward, Culet Spike.

Five ways to hurt: a quick hit (Gale), a heavy hit (Coil), several small hits (Squall), damage over time (Wither) and a delayed blow (Toll). Tally rewards taking hits, and Bevel Lash breaks shields. Coil and Gale are unchanged from the prototype.

Tailwind into Bevel Lash: the biggest single hit in the set.
What happens: Lio was handed a glyph too early, Bevel Lash, and her first cast went wild and hit her family. Cass's arm is glass to the elbow. Now she sits on her hands. Garnet doesn't blame the glyph; she blames nobody, which is the Facet way and which Lio can't stand. The player learns, from Cass rather than Rook, that Rook gave Lio the glyph. Rook won't come in. [Twinhold first] Lio asks whether the Wardens would un-teach her and whether it would hurt. The player can answer honestly. [Lanternfall first] Lio is the player's first close look at what a glyph can cost.

What happens: the player and Iver's crew go in through the east-pier drain. The wards are mirrored glyphs; an even pair can draw their reflection and open them without breaking them (a timed draw: the player casts the ward's own glyph, mirrored, inside one breath). Three wards, three guards: a Warden golem at each of the first two doors and a Warden sentinel at the third. The wards "weigh" every spell, so no guard here will take the same spell twice in a row, and the player has to vary their casts or thread. Casting a Facet spell in here is casting inside an Evane town: if any ward breaks instead of opening, the alarm rings, and the next Facet spell the player casts in the Vault is witnessed. In the inner Vault, Tamsin is on watch. The player chooses: talk Tamsin down (needs
tamsin.trust>= 2), Repel Tamsin out of the way and run, or fight Tamsin properly. Iver's crew empties the shelves into sacks. Behind the shelves they find a whole Warden glyph cut into the wall: Weigh. The player can trace it while the sacks fill. The Corran, five-seal shelf is here; Iver doesn't care about it, but the player can look (an Act 3 hook). Iver lets the player keep one glyph of their choice from the haul (Idea): the straight-stroke half of Bevel Lash, a Warden Brace variant, or a Still Choir fragment of Listen. From Walkthrough: Act 2 › Chapter 5: The Midpoint Choice › The Measure Vault break-in

Bevel Lash's other half: the triangle half lies deeper in the Shardfield, past the Corran road (Act 2 to 3, Spell Set tab). The straight-stroke half can come from the Vault haul.
