Model details: clips, textures and files

In the Codex

A practice golem built by the village: pale stone blocks lashed to training-dummy planks with rope and iron. Top-heavy, with huge fists, a tiny head and short legs, so it reads as a 3D creature even at small size. The glowing glyph on its chest is the one point of light and doubles as the natural aim point. This front view is the input image for the 3D model.

Built in Meshy from the front view above: 15,435 triangles, a 2K PBR texture set, rigged on a 24-bone humanoid skeleton at 2.4 m tall (it towers over the player). Six animation clips: idle, a two-fisted punch, hit reaction, a long stagger for Repel, death, and a slow heavy walk.

Still to do in Unity: a URP material from the PBR maps and an emissive mask so the chest glyph glows, since Meshy doesn't produce one. Files and settings: Assets/Art/Models/TrainingGolem/ and the Meshy section of Art/README.md.

Elsewhere in the Codex

Aske saw it. That night, in Aske's barn, the protagonist fights an old Warden training golem. This is the prototype's existing battle.

From Story Bible › Protagonist and Mentor › The first cast: Repel

(Idea) The golem: Aske's training golem, stone and old iron under an old sail in her barn. She "bought it cheap" ("Doesn't eat"). The glyph on its chest makes it pull its punches, mostly.

Aske's barn: the training golem fight, the prototype battle as it exists today.

From Story Bible › Story Outline › Prologue: The Door-Mark (Sallowbank)

Set piece: the glint pack at the farm door, then the golem.

From Story Bible › Story Outline › Prologue: The Door-Mark (Sallowbank)

(Idea) Recurring enemies: glints (loose reflections leaking from warps, the common monster); Warden training golems; Sallow Wyrm; glass storms in the Shardfield; outlaw casters of both sides in the Undermere.

Glow means magic. Only spells, glyphs and the golem's chest sigil emit light. Everything else is matte.

From Art Direction › Chosen style: stylized 3D JRPG, soft cel shading

Sallowbank, the Sallow Road and the Drowned Steps. The player wakes on the farm, meets Aske, draws the door-mark when glints come up the river, spars with Aske's training golem, takes two letters and walks with Aske to the Drowned Steps, where they trace Coil. Aske turns back for home.

Who: Aske, the training golem.

From Walkthrough: Prologue and Act 1 › Prologue: The Door-Mark (as built) › Scenes

What happens: Lantern light and tar. Aske asks whether the protagonist meant to do it, then pulls an old sail off a stone-and-iron training golem ("Bought it. Cheap. Doesn't eat."). Its chest glyph makes it pull its punches, mostly. After the spar, win or lose, Aske names what she saw: an even pair, hands that draw like one hand in a mirror. Ferry at first light, and boots that don't leak.

Player does: talk, choose (honesty raises aske.trust), fight the golem with Repel. Losing is allowed: Aske stops the golem.
