Composites: with Repel, Coil, Mend and Brace learned, the prototype allows every two-spell chain, so Repel into Coil (34 × 1.2 = 41 damage and a 2.5 s stagger) is possible against the Wyrm before anyone in the story has taught threading. The Story Bible puts the first thread in Act 2 (Rook or Dace, Repel into Gale: Headwind). Question 2 settles it: chains wait for
thread.taught.
The first composite, Headwind: Repel into Gale. In-world, a composite is a thread: both thumbs stay down from one spell into the next, so the Glass never closes (Story Bible section 7). The code already lets any two learned spells chain; this chapter is the lesson and the first named thread.
Player does: watch; draw Headwind (Repel into Gale) three times on a practice target, then win a short spar using it.

Art and audio: Headwind VFX: Repel's L-shockwave, then Gale's wind blades in the same motion, the target sliding back further than either spell alone. A one-armed casting animation for Rook (one hand, two halves, a held glyph hanging in the air). Practice dummies: a cut-glass post (Lanternfall) and a sail on a frame (the pass). A short "two motifs joined" sting: the Repel brass figure running into the Gale fiddle figure.

Screens used: glyph prompt (Cast, with a thread guide that shows Repel joined to Gale, (Idea)); Battle; Spell Book (a composites page lists Headwind once found).

Does the threading teacher depend on the order (Rook in route A, Dace in route B)? The Story Bible says "Rook (or Dace)". Recommend: yes: Rook in Lanternfall in route A, Dace at the wind pass summit in route B. Both teach the same thread, Headwind. (VEL-63)
How is Repel into Gale named in data? The Story Bible names threads by their parts; the Codex has named composites (Tempest, Bulwark). Recommend: a one-word name, like Tempest and Bulwark: id
headwind, shown as Headwind, flagcomposite.known.headwind. The Spell Book can still show its parts, "Repel into Gale". (VEL-63)
