Who: Hob (sundries and the Market board), Bram Tolley (innkeeper, at the Split Loaf door).
From Walkthrough: Prologue and Act 1 › Act 1: The Sallow Road › Chapter 3: Halfway
What happens: Hob runs the general store and keeps the Market board, where traders post goods for sale and buyers take them: the Market (main tab, section 9), where trading happens through the board and never hand to hand. Today it holds traders' listings; Hob says it fills up with travellers' goods "when the roads are busy". Next to it, the Truce Board carries jobs anyone can take (side quests, section 11). Hob sells boots that don't leak, which Aske asked for.

Names that collided across walkthroughs were changed in VEL-63: the Halfway gate's Facet is Wren (Pell is Act 2's sealed runner), the Amber Row's glyph-giver is Nell (Mott is Act 3's Undermere door), and the Waymaker drover on the Sallow Road is Jory (Jory is Act 3's old bell-ringer). Halfway and road names now: Hollin Tace, Sef, Wren, Bram Tolley, Hob, Orla, Harl, Quill, Nell, Ulla Stroud, Dorrit Mallow, Jory. The currency is copper, items use the items tab's catalogue ids, and enemies (
glint,tamsin_ring,sallow_wyrm) use the bestiary's.From Walkthrough: Prologue and Act 1 › Notes for the continuity pass (VEL-63)

The twelve Stilled: the racing child Pell is now Pip and the cart-driver Hob is now Teg (Pell and Hob are Act 1 and Act 2 people)
Section 4, Halfway: rows renamed the Pale Row and the Amber Row and the Middle Market, and the stalls named and keepered as Act 1 has them (Hob's Sundries, Sister Orla's Remedies, Harl, the Measure Post, Quill's Cut Glass, Mott's table, the token-changer); Hob keeps the Market Board and sells the Copper Band (two tabs named the same market differently)
Story: Detailed in walkthrough-act-1.md, scene 6.3. Aske isn't surprised to see the protagonist and doesn't say she's glad. She traces Brace with them hand over hand, her thumbs over theirs and her bands turned to the skin, and never casts. In the square Fenn shows off a chalk door-mark that sparked once (
fenn.spark). If the player bought Hob's boots that don't leak (item.dry_boots), Aske looks at them and says "Huh", which is the whole of the unused "Aske notices" hook from Act 1.From Side Quests › The Sallow › Hand over Hand (`aske_brace`)
