Sorrel
Elsewhere in the Codex
Who: Sorrel, an unbinder (Idea); a Facet healer.
From Walkthrough: Act 2 › Chapter 3: Lanternfall, with Rook › Unbinders and Table Mend
What happens: the bell tower has no bells, and something in it has been repeating the monks' signs back wrong. The echo glint copies the player's last spell and casts it back at them one turn later. Calm (Wen taught it at the listening stone) clears what it lands; the trick is to cast cheap spells for it to copy. After the fight Wen teaches Hush and Echo, hand over hand, and then asks a favour in signs: carry a letter to Lanternfall. The Still Choir is the one faction that quietly trades letters with the Facets. If the player has already met Iver, Wen's letter is addressed to Sorrel the unbinder.
Pell's hands: if the player told Pell about the unbinders, Pell turns up in Lanternfall at Sorrel's alcove with no money. Pay, or help Pell retrace Prism Snare from the start.
New named characters. Pell, Brother Fallow, Novice Tull, Sister Ise, Ness, Garnet, Cass, Sorrel, Rusk and Oda. Recommend: keep Pell, Ness and Sorrel as named characters, since they come back; the rest can stay as roles until they're needed.
[ ] 23. New character and place names. Act 2 adds Pell, Brother Fallow, Novice Tull, Sister Ise, Ness, Garnet, Cass, Sorrel, Bryn and Oda. Act 3 adds Sabe, Old Pim, Mott, Vey, the twelve Stilled and the Girdle cut. Act 4 adds the Undercrack, the Pane gauge and Even-handed. Recommendation: keep them as working names. Pell, Ness and Sorrel stay named characters because they come back; the rest stay roles until needed. Brin and Hollis are entry 10; clashes are entry 24. Sources:

Story: Ondine kept the Prelacy and lost her casting: her hands went still on the Pane. She asks the protagonist, privately, to find out whether a Tender can give them back. Mother Bramble won't, because nature wouldn't: it isn't a wound, it's a cost. The protagonist can also ask in Lanternfall, where the Facet healer says Table Mend doesn't touch it and Sorrel the unbinder says "A seal's only a knot. This isn't a knot." Back in Twinhold they tell Ondine the truth, a hope that isn't there, or that the people she had sealed live with exactly this. She pays them to the exact copper, as the Wardens always do, and then asks them to sit a while.

Wind, ringing glass and amber light, and nobody asks who you are. Work comes from Facets, who would rather give than pay: the Bevel cut, Sorrel's alcove, the Lanternfall board (

Story: This is the walkthrough's "Pell's hands" hook. Pell walked south from Twinhold on the player's word and now sits outside Sorrel's alcove with sealed hands and no money. Sorrel's price is 200 copper, and Sorrel gives no discounts ("A seal's only a knot. Knots have prices."). The player chooses: pay, or help Pell do it the slow way and retrace Prism Snare from real fragments. Pell's own triangle shard was taken with the copies in Twinhold and sent up to the Keepers' confiscated shelf, so the slow way waits until the player holds both halves in Act 3 (the Girdle house in Corran, the Hour Stair archive). Either way, Pell's hands answer again, and Pell's first words are "First thing I'll do is give it away."
