How to read a quest
- Ids. A side quest's id is
side_<slug>, unless a walkthrough named it first (aske_brace,mend_lesson,long_way_up,act4_side_last_wagon). Its file isData/Quests/<id>.json. - Stages are JSON in the shape of
Data/Quests/prologue.json(id,title,description,stages[{ id, text, completeWhen }]), with three fields the Game Screens tab asks for:"category": "side","giver"(a character id) and"startWhen"(the walkthroughs' gate, the same condition JSON ascompleteWhen). A quest on a notice board also names its"board". - Stage flags are
side.<slug>.stage, an integer that never goes backwards, asprologue.stagedoes. - Available from names the act and the condition that opens it: the Prologue's end is
prologue.stage >= 7, Act 1 isact1.stage >= 1, Act 2 isact1.done != 0, Act 3 isact2.done != 0, Act 4 isact3.done != 0, and the world after Act 4 isact4.stage >= 8. - Rewards are in copper (the only currency), catalogue item ids from the Items and Economy tab, spell ids from the Spell Roadmap, and reputation moves in steps of 5 on
rep.evane,rep.facets, the five faction tracks (rep.wardens,rep.tenders,rep.keepers,rep.choir,rep.waymakers),moralityand companions'<name>.trust. Side-quest pay follows the Items and Economy tab: 30–60 copper in Act 1, 80–150 in Act 2, 150–250 from Act 3. - Yarn node titles are
Side_<Place>_<Beat>inDialogue/Side/<region>.yarn, unless a walkthrough named them. - Fights use the Bestiary's enemy ids; a side quest's own encounters get their own ids, listed with the quest.
- Board quests carry
"postWhen": the condition for the notice to show on its board. Their"startWhen"is the quest's own stage flag at 1, which "Take" sets, so a job joins the Journal only once it is taken (Game Screens, Notice boards). - Companion trust stays 0–5 and moves by 1, as the canon flags have it (
aske.trust,tamsin.trust,hale.trust). Every other standing move is a step of 5. - Choices are recorded in
side.<slug>.choice(1, 2, 3 …), set once. A few quests count things inside.<slug>.<count>. Both only rise, like the stage flags. - Repeatable quests and hunts. A quest that can be taken again (The Next Wagon, caravan jobs) carries
"repeatable": trueand resets only its own run flags when retaken; a glyph hunt uses"category": "hunt". Both are new fields for the quest loader.
